Where to stay in Santorini if you are traveling as a couple or as a family? Maybe without getting plucked and ending up on a peak isolated from anything?
I would have liked someone to recommend me where to stay in Santorini before my trip to this beautiful island, but unfortunately I had to go there a bit, and to prevent you from commenting on my own mistakesI’m here to suggest you where to sleep on Greece’s most famous island.
Santorini is an island that develops lengthwise, and the points of interest are located a little above the island, although most people prefer the northern area, where the beautiful Oia, Imerovigli and of course the capital Fira.
Deciding where to stay in Santorini by choosing the right location is not at all easy, because in the north the accommodation facilities tend to cost an arm and a leg, but they allow you to stay in the most serviced areas and touristic, and in the south, although they cost less, they leave you a little away from the more famous cities.
Despite this, my advice if you want to save is to stay in the central/southern area of the islandwe will see more precisely where below.
Where to stay in Santorini if you want to spend little
There is no doubt if you want to spend little in Santorini forget to stay in Oia or Imerovigli area; or rather, if you want to stay in these places on a budget, be aware that the choice is not vast and you may have to compromise with accommodation, ending up in some run-down slum.
I stayed in Imerovigli and spent around €90 per night for a very basic but nice and well maintained B&B, booked well in advance, you can find it here if you want to take a look, but I tell you the truth, if I went there again I would probably choose to stay in either Pyrgos or Emporio as they are only 30 minutes from Imerovigli and 45 from Oia. I only saw the latter once as it didn’t thrill me too much as it was too touristy and crowded, although very pretty.
The areas of Pyrgos and Emporio are excellent if you want to stay in Santorini on a budgetbecause the villages are simply wonderful, very well connected and with the same price you would spend in Oia you can afford facilities with a dream pool.
Also the areas are much cheaper than Imerovigli or Oia, just think that a breakfast in these places is around 35€ per person (continental breakfast) while here you can find places where you can have an Italian breakfast for a few euros. Rental scooters are also much more affordable with lower prices.
In any case, if you want to understand where to stay in Santorini on a low budget while staying in these areas, you will find below some accommodations that could suit you:
Where to stay in Santorini on a budget in a good location
If you really don’t want to compromise on location, just cross your fingers and find something nice in the Imerovigli or Oia area.
In this case, timing is really importantif you wait too long to book, you’ll get those lovely few blown-out cheap accommodations in places everyone wants to stay.
The advantage of staying in these two places is that you are close to the best connected areas of the island, in fact Fira is only a few minutes from Imerovigli and Oia and the main attraction of the island. Also in the south there are points of interest, some beaches and villages to visit, but let’s say that most tourists prefer to stay in the north.

Dream accommodation in Santorini: if you don’t want to miss anything
I also do a section on luxury accommodation in Santorini, although I will certainly talk about it better in a new article. While walking in the Imerovigli I saw crazy accommodations, something to dream about, but it is clear that prices are increasing significantly for these accommodations. On the other hand, it must also be said that it makes no sense to take such accommodation if you do not intend to live there, ergo, if it is the first time that you come to Santorini, prefer a basic accommodation as you will be around most of the time seeing things unless you have so much money to spend you don’t care.
If, on the other hand, it is not the first time you have been to Santorini, you can also consider enjoying your vacation in one of these fantastic accommodations, you will hardly want to go out to visit the rest of the island.
These luxury accommodations in Santorini are just some of the ones I recommend, you will find more information in the more detailed article:
